Jesus did many things that seem odd when taken out of context. When you look at his whole story, you see God trying to show us a better way to live: one of peace and submission and love.

Ted C. Jesus cried out truth in a loud voice in pubic, rebuking sin and false teachers^. Jesus whipped money changers in his Father's house. He commanded the 12 to sell their clothes for swords (to be rebels), then healed the soldier's ear they hacked off, also rebuking the Jews' cowardice in arresting him at night. He boldly came to set even family members against each other. He hung out with sinners to tell them stop sinning and follow him instead.
^like these two bloggers

Re: Ted's Tidbits: Persecution

Good post Ted. I too have felt this need for quite some time, but had not been able to put a finger on what I was feeling. After experiencing my Spiritual Formation class, I decided to take action. In the class, it was detailed what silence and solitude have to do with Christian spirituality and I realized that's what I had been looking for (yes, this is even after chapters on these practices in our weekly group). Erin and I have started taking a Sabbath from technology (which happens to be on Saturdays as the most convenient day). So on Saturdays, I don't turn on my computer and I leave my cell phone off. We don't own a TV so that's not a problem. I found the experience to be refreshing (and also a little maddening). We also made some intentional choices about reading the Bible, memorization, and quiet time. When I connected again the next day, I discovered the world really did go on without me. :)

I'll let you know how this practice develops and evolves. I am looking forward to more updates from you on this matter as well.

Peace,

James

Re: Disconnecting

There does seem to be a bit of irony in Tweeting a link to a blog post about disconnecting.

Ted C. The few times that I have disconnected, I have found a calm that is really nice. I can specifically remember a class retreat to Texoma a few years back that happened after a long period of 'connectedness'. It was the most refreshing thing I had experienced in some time.

Re: Distraction of The Week: Erykah Badu

When you put it like that, he just sounds like a cranky old man. The question Caraway should be asking is how come this happened without anyone seeming to notice until she released her video online.

Ted C.
